Dipayan Mukherjee, Ph.D.

I am a Mechanical Engineer by training. I am currently working as an Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering at IIT Kanpur. I was born and brought up at Uttarpara, a northern suburb of Kolkata situated on the west bank of the Ganga. I have completed my undergraduate studies in IIEST Shibpur and subsequently completed Masters from IIT Kanpur. During this period I have gained keen interest in theoretical and applied mechanics of solids, dynamics and vibrations of rigid and continuous systems.

I obtained my Ph.D. from Ecole Polytechnique, IP Paris in Engineering Mechanics. My Ph.D. thesis was on multiscale continuum modeling of permanently magnetizable soft solids. After my Ph.D., I worked in the Engineering Department of Cambridge University as a Research Associate. My research focus in Cambridge was on modeling lithium ingress in all-solid-state Li-ion batteries. I have joined IIT Kanpur in November 2022. My research at IITK is focused on application of electro/magneto/chemo-active soft materials in biomedical devices. I primarily do continuum scale modeling and simulations of soft solids.
